Recent Argentine Tango Events in Lexington, KY:

The Atrium at Victorian Square early in the evening.

June 12
2nd Sunday Milonga at Victorian Square

401 W Main Street, Lexington, KY 40507

5:30 to 8 p.m. Everybody's welcome: beginners and observers, too! Music is predominately traditional. The only place around where you can dance under the old-fashioned street lamps and still be inside!

Interesting crowd this Sunday! Oscar Leguizamón (actor, writer, Lunfardo expert, charmer, philosopher, 15 years as company manager for Forever Tango, and all-around nice guy) was in attendance. We were thrilled to see Marcela as always! And it was great to see wanderers Patricia and Monte. So nice to hear so much Castellano spoken...makes it feel a little like Buenos Aires. But let's not forget, it's the "regulars" who make Second Sunday a success and keep it going year after year! Gracias a todos!

May 8
2nd Sunday Milonga at Victorian Square

401 W Main Street, Lexington, KY 40507

Happy Spring and Happy Mother's Day! Finally, a day with sunshine. Phoebe from Chicago drove over from Louisville, taking a break from her Derby celebrations. Angel brought his mother, and several other relatives as well. Check out his beautiful nieces, and his nephew...clearly an aspiring tango dancer!

Pre-Milonga Class with Alicia Pons

April 23, 2011
Easter Tango Surprise

7:30 p.m. Class with Alicia Pons of Buenos Aires; Milonga immediately following at 9 ish until ??
Pot luck & BYOB.
"Pink Flamingo" Studio @ Dudley Square
380 South Mill Street, Lexington, KY 40507

Lexington was Alicia's next to last stop before she returns home to B.A. Thanks to Kelly and Cindy for organzing and to D.J. Barb for getting Alicia here in spite of the severe Kentucky spring weather. The guys could hardly stand it: Alicia Pons and Marcela Duran both in the same room???? And we have proof!

Thursday April 14
An evening with Fernando Marzan, pianist with Luis Bravo's Forever Tango Orchestra.

J. J. Niles Gallery, University of Kentucky

Fernando explored through words and musical examples the evolution of tango music as exhibited by orchestras ranging from Francisco Canaro through Astor Piazzolla. Thanks to Diana Hallman, Associate Professor of Musicology at the UK School of Music for organizing this special event. The audience included local tango dancers, members of the cast of "Forever Tango" and its producer and director Luis Bravo, as well as faculty and students of the University of Kentucky.

April 10
2nd Sunday Milonga at Victorian Square

401 W Main Street, Lexington, KY 40507

Great to see Jay and Rita SO SOON. They know why. Thanks to Barb and Kelly for helping set up as Lu Ann was returning from Columbus. And what a treat to have Marcela Duran, Karina Piazza and Fernando Marzan in attendance!

March 13, 2011
2nd Sunday Milonga at Victorian Square

5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Atrium of Victorian Square
401 W Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40507

We celebrated Rita's birthday with a "birthday dance" and cupcakes with candles. Lu Ann made sure she did not forget to bring her camera with the depleted battery, hence no pictures of this special occasion. Just take our word for it; the ladies were gorgeous and the men muy guapo.

February 13, 2010
2nd Sunday Milonga

401 W Main Street, Lexington, KY 40507

Special guests Marcela Duran and Ezequeil Hudyma graced us with an exhibition. Great turn out as you might expect! And a great prelude to Valentine's Day. Thanks to Ron and Judy for hosting while Lu Ann was in Buenos Aires.
