Thursday Class with Lu Ann: Do you hear what I hear?

Thursday Class with Lu Ann: Do you hear what I hear?

In this class we will play with the rhythmic opportunities to be found within the music of some of the Golden Age masters. Leaders: You carry your favorite steps and combinations and navigational solutions around in your head. Can you find new ways to execute them based on a different rhythmic structure? Followers: You hear the music, too. What happens when your partner doesn’t seem to be dancing the same song?

Register in advance with Lu Ann at lapb1399@gmail.com, and let her know who you have arranged to be your registration partner. To ensure balance and a pleasant experience for everybody, we need even numbers.

$12 per person. Exact change appreciated! ArtsPlace Studio 3B.

Lu Ann’s Thursday night “close embrace” classes will focus on creating a more satisfying experience for both the lead and the follow. If you choose to dance in an open embrace outside of these classes, you will find that the skills you develop here will still be of benefit. We will strive to create a nurturing and forgiving environment that induces a lot of smiling. Laughter will also be encouraged. When we are tense, our body can confuse our partner’s body.

Argentine Tango is a social dance. For that reason, we will rotate partners throughout class.

Thursday night classes with Lu Ann

Exact class topics will be decided after Lu Ann has an idea of who is coming, as that makes a difference to what material we will approach so that it is most relevant to the attendees. But, of course, it will be all about the tango that Lu Ann dances in Buenos Aires; specifically Close Embrace/Milonguero style. This description will be updated soon with the topic.

Register in advance with Lu Ann at lapb1399@gmail.com, and let her know who you have arranged to be your registration partner. To ensure balance and a pleasant experience for everybody, we need even numbers.

Class with Lu Ann: "Look Ma! No Hands!"

You guessed it. This class will examine what it takes to create movement in our partner and receive movement from our partner, without using our hands and arms. It’s not magic, but it feels like magic when done well. Even complex patterns can be led and followed in close embrace without the involvement of our hands and arms. Abandon the embrace??? Don’t worry; it’s only temporary.

These “close embrace” classes will focus on creating a more satisfying experience for both the lead and the follow. If you choose to dance in an open embrace outside of these classes, you will find that the skills you develop here will still be of benefit.

Class with Lu Ann: "Good Things Come to Those Who Wait"

Come prepared to listen to your partners. NOT to what they say, but what they do. Argentine Tango is a (non-verbal) conversation. We’ll examine why familiar patterns are a both a blessing and a curse.

If you haven’t already, register in advance with Lu Ann at lapb1399@gmail.com. We are currently role balanced, so dancers new to the class will need to secure a registration partner.

$12 per person. Exact change appreciated!

Class with Lu Ann: "You already know how to walk."

Lu Ann will share her subversive ideas on “the tango walk.” We’ll play with walking and how it affects your dance. We’ll make the men walk backwards in high heels. Just kidding. We won’t do that. We’ll find some ways to allow the ladies to experience walking forward, and maybe even discover some ways for leaders to prevent traffic jams in the ronda, without getting a ticket from the tango police.

Register in advance with Lu Ann at lapb1399@gmail.com. $12 per person. Exact change appreciated! Studio 3B.
